The Wentzel Brothers are playing some gigs this weekend on the 29th and the 30th. They are going to be playing at Red Cedar Farms the 29th and Howlin Hill on the 30th. This is going to be a fun weekend to come on out to see some live music!

Where are these venues located at?

Both of the venues that the Wentzel Brothers are playing at this weekend are going to be in Chapel Hill Tennessee.

If you live in the local area it's perfect for you.

What is Red Cedar Farms?

You can click on the link above to see addresses for both of the events happening this weekend. Red Cedar Farms is a farm/ grocery store in the town of Chapel Hill. You can buy fresh produce and hemp from their farm. They are having a fall festival right now where you can go on tractor rides, pumpkin patch and there will be a haunted corn maze.

What is Howlin Hill?

Howlin Hill is a venue that offers camping kayak/canoe rentals and live entertainment. If you are in the mood for a night around a campfire in a natural ampitheatre with a stage with live music, this is definitely the spot to go to.

Will there be a Halloween costume party?

Yes, at Howlin Hill there will be a halloween themed costume party. If you are wanting to bring out your old peter pan outfit than you can come on out to howlin Hill to get some use out of it.

Is there going to be a cover charge?

At Howlin Hill, there is a cover charge to make sure that the musicians get some money for their troubles. The amount is 15 dollars for music and 25 dollars for music and camping.

What did the Wentzel brothers do this weekend?

The Wentzel Brothers didn't have any gigs to play this weekend, so they decided to plan a hangout to have some fun! The group went to Miller's Thrillers haunted woods on Friday and did a photoshoot on Saturday and relaxed that evening around a campfire at a family member's house. It was a really fun time and they all had a blast!

What is Miller's Thrillers Haunted Woods?

Miller's Thrillers Haunted Woods is a seasonal event (only happens around Halloween time) that has people audition for spots to jump out and scare the people who are attending the course.

It's really long for a course, they, spent a lot of money and time on this event and you can really tell.

Where is the haunted woods located at?

I don't know really much about this event, because this is the first year that we've gone to this event, but this year it was held in Columbia Tennessee really close to spring hill Tn. If you think it'll be hard to find, you'd be wrong because they had high power spot beam lights in the sky that you could see for miles before you get to the place.

Was the Haunted Woods fun or worth it?

The band had a really fun time going through the course, to be honest it kinda feels like a maze rather than woods, but lights will guide you through to where you are supposed to go without getting lost.

The price for tickets with a slash pass, which allows you to skip the line, is 40 dollars. I actually would recommend getting the slash pass because there were a TON of people there and getting to skip all of them was pretty satisfying.

We had a good time, and would definitely go back again!

What else could you do at the Haunted Woods?

The haunted woods was just one of the events you could go to, there were others as well like a zombie related course, a pirate themed play, and at least like 5 more.

How long did we stay?

We went on the Haunted Woods course, then went to watch the pirates play and then left, probably around 9:30pm. We got there around 8:00pm, so with a slash pass the haunted woods is about an hour or so long if you wanted to know how long to expect it to be.

When we left we went to Waffle House to eat some food, then left there and met up the next morning at the band room.

Where did The Wentzel Brothers take their photoshoot at?

The Wentzel Brothers decided to take the photoshoot on the 10-23-21 in the woods in their back yard. Mary thought it would be cool to carve out some pumpkins to put on the band's faces for the photoshoot. The last part of the shoot the band took the pictures at the front gate of the house.

Who did the photoshoot?

Mary took the photos for the band's photoshoot. She used Jacob Bean's camera to take some pictures. She also directed the band to different spots for the pictures. She definitely did a good job and the pictures that came out of it were solid.

When will YOU be able to see these photos?

The band will post up these pictures throughout the weeks on social media and will put up some on their website!

Where did the band go after the photoshoot?

The band hung out at a close friend's house and played some songs with him around a campfire. It was a good night for it, the weather was just right and the fire was cooking!

What Happened after?

The band left that night and relaxed on Sunday. The weekend was a lot of fun!

The Wentzel brothers band have a weekend off from gigs, so they are going to hangout! What place better to hangout than The legendary Pickin Parlor Kimbrose in Franklin Tn.

One of the bands that played that night!

They also played in the Pilgrimage Festival!

The group planned to go out to have a well deserved fun time.

Kimbros outside when I got there.

They rearranged it and it looked pretty nice!

They decided to head out to kimbrose Picking Parlor in Franklin TN, to do a little bit of front porch picking!

Kimbros is full of band posters, merch

and signatures!

When the band got there Ironman, the guy who is at Kimbrose a LOT got excited when Bean told him that he brought his upright bass.

Sac taking a turn on the upright bass while Bean

takes a break.

What is there to do in Kimbros?

The band went to kimbros to jam out with the regulars and anyone else who was in the mood to play music.

The venue has an indoors and outdoors and has live music usually playing in both spots.

The bands that play there range from local artists to big name artists that pop in from time to time.

Kimbros has really tasty bar food and alcoholic beverages, plus if you want to be surrounded by good people that place is full of them.

How is the crowd at Kimbros?

Kimbros always brings tourists in, especially since Nashville shut down a lot of venues. The crowd last weekend was the biggest I'd ever seen!

The reason for the amount of people was because the pilgrimage festival was going on in Franklin and a lot of people came down to take part in it.

There were so many people that they were lined up to the street to get in to the venue. That’s crazy! I’ve been to Kimbro’s many times and I’ve never seen that many people there before.

What did the Wentzel Brothers do while they were there?

While the Wentzel Brothers were at the venue, they ended up pretty much jamming and having a good time!

Bean stayed out on the front porch most of the night until probably 10:30 and then left home.

Sac and I-Van went in the backroom to jam out with the people inside.

George and Maddie were also there and they had a good time as well.

When are The Wentzel Brothers hanging out again?

If you want to hangout with the Wentzel Brothers next weekend is a good time to do it.

They will be going out next weekend because I-Van is going out of state.

Every year, Henry Horton puts on this festival to help bring in more tourists and old culture back to the town. Henry Horton State Park is where this event is located and this is the second biggest event that we have in Chapel Hill Tn.

There were a lot of people roaming around all day!

The biggest event is the Truck and Tractor Pull which is hosted by the Lion’s club.

The Wentzel Brothers have gotten really efficient at setting up!

The Wentzel Brothers were scheduled to set up their sound system for the whole event, just like last year, but this year it was projected to rain, and evidently did end up storming.

Cute little dog! He had a Spanish name which

When the band showed up the park ranger wanted the band to play on the gooseneck trailer, but they ended up moving their equipment into the pavilion stage A.

While the group was on the Cumberland river, Sac called Jacob Bean and told the group that he couldn't find the keys to the bus which held all of the equipment on it.

The group went back to land and tied off the pontoon. They made a plan to get the equipment to Bumpus Mills which was to get the trailer that was being worked on and put the equipment from the bus on the trailer.

Mr. Grey playing at Bowie's the night before

Before Sac ended up going to get the trailer, he ended up finding the keys to the bus and the group got something to eat and left back out on the pontoon.

The group relaxed on the river until probably around 2 or so and then went back to the dock and played some cornhole.

George is a cornhole deity so he ended up wrecking both I-van and Bean but when Jacob bean and i-van went against each other, they played about 30 minutes to a hour for a single match. The reason why this happened is because they played bust and Ivan busted 3 times against Jacob Bean.

When Sac got there at the venue, the band quickly got the stage set up and even had extra time to sit for 15min before the show to prepare for it. The band started playing around 5pm and they ended up finishing around 8pm.

The crowd was WILD! There were women and tons of children dancing in the crowd. This was one of the best shows that the band has played and it’s all because of the crowds interaction!

After the band finished up, they caught up and chatted with some people there and then packed up their bus and headed on back home.

It is a 2+ hour drive for them so when they all got home they slept in!!

The Wentzel Brothers are working on a new song they are calling "Remember me".

This is song that the band has been working on for a little while. They have the full song already arranged and are in the process of mixing it.

What is it about?!?

Ivan working on mixing Remember Me

The song is written in the perspective of a man who got a real bad luck streak and was with a woman who broke up with him.

The woman goes on to other things and the man has his life going in the right direction for a while, getting basically whatever he wants.

Sac and Mary

When the woman hears about this she finds him and wants him back, but he doesn't want her anymore and he tells her that he is glad that she remembers him.

Its a local brewery in Columbia TN, they’ve played there multiple times, but this was the second 1st Friday that they've played there. It was packed they think that had a lot to do with the Maury county fair going on the whole week.

There were definitely some interesting folks out Friday!

They met a lot of new people and then they packed up and left for the night to meet up and Lynchburg Harley Davidson bike night.

This is a newer band that is just starting up in Columbia. Dang I can't remember their name! But they were good!

Just a normal picture>.<

The band left the band room at around 1pm and headed down to the venue. Jacob Bean drove himself and got there about an hour before the band did. He spent his time there catching some pictures of the scenery and catching up with some familiar people. Here are some pictures that he took of the scenery.

This is the 3rd Lynchburg bike night that the Wentzel Brothers had played at and they set up out in the main square and even inside the Lynchburg Winery.

The Harley Davidson Store let the band use a gazebo and pointed out the spot to put it.

This time playing across the street of the store, the Paranormal activities place had built a wooden fence right behind where the band would set up.

With two hours to set up, the band got it done in record time.

There were a lot of people excited to hear the band start, and the band was excited to rock some faces.

After the band got done playing they chatted with a couple of fans and went to tear down the equipment. The band was kinda in a hurry to pack up because it had a chance of raining.

When they got done playing, since it’s an outdoor event and the square closes around 5:30 now, the people all left and the band were the last to leave.

Sunday Photoshoot!

The band decided to meetup at Henry Horton Park in their hometown to do a photoshoot with a photographer named Tabi Payne. They planned on meeting up around 11:45 to get the shoot started. Tabi was looking to do a free photoshoot to get a portfolio going, so the band decided to work with her

Cool barrel table in The Lynchburg Winery

The band got there around the same time right around 12:00pm.

While the band waited they discussed about taking shirtless pictures and they smothered sun lotion on themselves.

While the band was waiting on the photographer, worked on a new song idea.

While they were waiting they also stopped by the owner of the from the heart. That is a local restaurant in Chapel Hill which makes really good Steakhouse burgers!

We took pictures of us in the tall grass, and then went to take some pictures by the duck river. All in all it was a productive day and go check out Tabi Payne to take some photos for you.

The next morning…

The band all were up at about 8am the next morning and really soon after they got up they heard someone knocking on their door. They went and answered it and it turned out that it was a fan from last night that was checking on us to see if we needed any food or anything from the grocery store.

What a nice fellow! We told him we had plenty of food, but could use some mayonnaise for our lunch meat. He told us that he lives pretty close and that he had shuffleboard. Bean never played shuffleboard before, but it sounded like a good time and they all wanted to go. Besides Mary and Issac who stayed at the cabin.

 Shuffleboard and Gators!

The band ate mini cinnamon rolls for breakfast and got dressed to go to the man’s house. They all headed out the front door and then the guy drove right on up in his gator.

As typical, Bean was the last one to get to the gator because he decided to go in and put some shoes on, but since his feet are smaller than everyone else’s he decided to go barefoot anyway.

On the way to the man’s house, while the gator backed out of the driveway, the was the local dog named “Bullet” who was just roaming about. Bean wished that they wouldve taken him with them because he was too cute. Nothing really exciting happened on the drive besides a gorgeous view of the area and it’s trees. Oh yeah and everybody’s hair flying up in funny ways.

When the group got to the house, the man explained the rules of shuffleboard and they decided to go as two teams, Maddie and Bean vs Ivan and George. The game was actually pretty close despite Maddie basically carrying Bean in the game.

The final score ended up being something like 21 to 15( Ivan to Maddie). After the game was done, the group chatted a little bit with the man and then took off back to the cabin.

Getting ready for the show

When the group got back, the man told them that he would come and watch them perform around 1 when they start. The band ate lunch watched a little Rick and Morty, tried Black Ops 2 zombies one last time(which didn’t work unsurprisingly) and got dressed and headed on out to the stage.

When the group got down to the stage, they moved the pa system back into place and Mary organized up the merch to look nice and pretty.

The band took the stage at 1 and ended around 4pm.There were a couple of people that came in and out, but not too much. The band got done playing a good show, then tore down and loaded up the sound system and equipment, and even made off with some good money!

On The Way Back Home

Sac decided to drive the bus home, and the rest of the group sat in the back and played some games and talked. The band only made one stop for gas and went basically straight home.

Nothing too eventful happened besides a couple of goofy stops by Sac claiming that we couldn’t go any further because there were cops ahead of us. Which were just jokes.

That was it!

Ready to rock!

The Wentzel brothers band scheduled two gigs to play at Bumpus Mills Marina, the 28th and 29th of August. The boys were very excited to come out to the venue and jam out some tunes for the fans that were there to listen to it.

. The venue is a couple hours away from home for the brothers, so they decided that it would be a good idea to take the bus to the place, that way the whole band plus extras could get there with one vehicle.

Tired and cramped

The Wentzel brothers band played a three gig weekend, playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The guys got to the bus early the morning after the Friday gig and were all tired, but willing to take the leaps and perform for the fans, so they toughed it out and headed down to Bumpus Mills!

The band planned to stay at a cabin in the marina and brought proper provisions and luggage for an overnight trip. They got to the bandroom early and reorganize the band bus. With luggage the entire sound system and 6 bodies, the ride was a little crammed.

The band planned to get at the venue to set up around 2pm, but with stopping at Sam's club and getting gas they ended up getting there around 3:30pm and rushed to get set up by 5pm. Which is funny because the owners said the gig started at 6:30pm not 5pm!

The venue is Amazing!

So with the band getting set up in record time, the members had time to sit and relax until it was time to go on. Jacob went to cabin and dropped off a couple things and picked up a couple things, Ivan and Issac visited the cabin too, and then relaxed until time in front of the stage.

As soon as Jacob turned his laptop on and got it ready to start editing video, the owner wanted the band to go on early to set the mood. So they all got up and ready to rock!

The show started and...!

They took the stage and the locals/ boaters came on out to check us out.

I think everybody had an amazing time! Especially when we kicked in some of our more rocking songs on our set!

The band played until about 10 I think and people were still wanting more, but they had put everything out for them on the stage and were DONE!

The cool thing about the stage setup was that it was a box in trailer that can open and close to protect whatever is inside of it. So the band ended up moving our equipment in the middle of it and closed it up for the night, because they were expecting some rain.

Crashing for the night.

The band went up to their cabin and got comfortable. The members ended up playing a round of Cards against humanity and then some members went to bed.

The rest of the members tried to get the ps3 to play black ops 2 zombies, but it kept freezing. So after trying like 5 times to get that to work they quit and turned in for the night.

Part 2 coming up!

Its funny even when we got set up the sun was still on Issac's face and he was sweating like crazy. He looked like a wax figure that was melting!

Putting on a good show!

When the Wentzel brothers band took the stage the crowd was still getting there. About for the entire time there were bikers coming in until the show ended. The crowd really went crazy when Ivan took to a drum solo and Jacob "Bean" played his solo.

If you missed this performance, there will be another coming up that hasn't been scheduled as of yet, but you will be the first to know when it gets booked!

We had a chance to play with this band called The Next Door Boys at one of our favorite locations to play at, The Boondox on September 24 2020.

They are a fun group and we have actually known them for awhile, but to you who are wondering, who they are, read a little further down.

Who are the Next Door Boys?

The Next Door Boys are made up of six members who are all under 18. Matthew Skoda plays the drums, Kai Foster plays bass, Miles Morrow plays guitar, Joe Larson plays keyboard and vocals, Ethan Kress is lead vocals and Kyle Harkins plays guitar. These kids are AMAZING! The keyboardist is 12 years old and he is one of the most solid pianists I've heard. Miles is only 13 and he is a great lead guitarist. Their drummer is pretty epic too, being trained by the drummer from Three Days Grace Neil Sanderson. Kyle Harkins and Ethan also work very well together producing a cool coordination to create a dynamic performance for the audience. And let's not forget, being a bassist myself, Kai is definitely rocking the Fender Jazz bass, he even gets a couple solos, so fellow bassists gotta watch out for that!

Jacob Newcomb,

Bassist for The Wentzel Brothers Band
The Wentzel Brothers Bandtag:thewentzelbrothers.com,2005:Post/62198182020-02-18T22:42:52-06:002020-02-18T22:52:51-06:00Talent
Throughout my entire life I’ve been regularly confronted with the same situation. After a display of aptitude or skill in a certain area it seems to be common-place for people to respond with ”you are so talented,” or something to that effect . My immediate response is usually a simple thank you and a smile. Although I often wonder if people realize exactly what they are implying with that phrase. Merriam Webster defines talent as follows: natural aptitude or skill. This is perhaps a little more specific than many people know.

The term “talent” only accounts for NATURAL aptitude or skill, not any skill that has been gained through education ,practice, or experience. In my particular case the latter three are just as much contributors to my skill level as talent especially when it comes to music. I am not definitely not saying that talent doesn’t exist or that the good lord hasn’t blessed me with it, however I have always had to work for it. That being said the main point that I want to get across is that talent is only a fraction of what goes into being a great musician and performer, furthermore I was not born with an overwhelming amount talent when compared to many other people. The only thing that separates me from the average person is determination, willingness to learn and perhaps opportunity.

The only way to get from OK or good to great is with an unbelievable amount of hard work. There are exceptions to almost any rule but in this case there are very few. I came to this conclusion after studying many of the great performers and bands that inspired me in my youth. Bands such as Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, and Grand Funk Railroad all have one thing in common, a strong work ethic and musical integrity. This has become somewhat of a lost value system and does not have enough respect within modern music industry or society as a whole.

This is the very set of values that The Wentzel Brother Band has been built upon along with the idea that there are no shortcuts to the top. There is reason that most bands don't make it and it isn't luck. Talent alone isn’t enough to get you to the top either. One of the most important things for a successful band or business of any kind is a functional and efficient team. One in which there is a clear leader and set of rules that each member follows to the dot.

This is one of The Wentzel Bros. biggest and most apparent strengths. Each member of the band knows his job and follows it well to create a well functioning system. Not to mention the personal sacrifice that each band member has made for the betterment of the band and for each other, has made each one of them a valuable asset for the long run.

It’s important for me to add that I do not consider myself a “great” musician, maybe you can make an argument for “good” but just take my opinion for what it is, an opinion.

“69 Chevelle” is a song that is on the album In The Shadow of The Mountain, which was created by The Wentzel Brothers Band, and it talks about having the car of your dreams. Every member of the band thought that it was one of the coolest cars they could think of. The band knew they it could be some of the best music in Nashville. So the jam began.

Lyrics

I've been waiting for the last two weeks just to get paid

Get that fifty dollar bill in my pocket and I'll have it made

Been bone dry sense I picked up my new Chevelle

She runs like a top and drives like a bat out of hell

Well I ain't got the money to pay the bills ‘cause I spend it on my new wheels

But the chicks don't dig it when you get your thrills from pickup lines and dirty deals

Boss man's chomping at the bit just to chew me out

But he's the man who signs the check I can't live without

So everyday I end up punching out right around five

Just to go find me a little queen to take for a ride

Well I ain't got the money to pay the bills ‘cause I spent it all on my new wheels

But the chicks don't dig it when you get your thrills from pick-up lines and dirty deals

I've been waiting for the last two weeks just to get paid

‘cause I'm dead broke, got nobody else to blame

I ain't got the money to pay the bills ‘cause I spent it all on my new wheels

The chicks don't dig it when you get your thrills from pick-up lines and dirty deals

Production

This song is a result of a jam session. It went on for a while before Ivan called a stop to the session and grabbed a piece of paper. About 15 minutes passed and the lyrics were complete. Naturally the band went to work on arranging the song. Keeping in mind their musical influences like ZZ Top, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath, and the best music in Nashville, Issac Wentzel added killer lead guitar work. Jacob Newcomb preceded to lay down a groovy bass line. Ivan Wentzel added some driving drums and the song began to come to life.

The lyrics of the song focus on a man that spends all his money on his car. He's got the coolest ride in town but lives paycheck to paycheck and struggles to afford basic necessities. He's more interested in building his persona as a cool stud opposed to settling down and going with the flow.

This song was recorded at Sound Revival Records during the Shadow of the Mountain session. It was one of 10 other great songs tracked that day. It has become some of the best music in Nashville. This is some of the best live concert music! It rightfully earns its spot as 1st on the album.

Concluding Statements

In conclusion, “69 Chevelle” is an epic southern rock tune with an infectious driving rhythm and wailing lead guitar. Definitely some of the best concert music there is. This song is something any rock fan south of the Mason-Dixon line can get behind, or anyone into muscle cars.
The Wentzel Brothers Bandtag:thewentzelbrothers.com,2005:Post/51097052018-03-03T15:00:38-06:002018-03-03T15:23:47-06:00Starting TONIGHT!

Finishing Tracking

The Wentzel Brothers Band had got 6 of their songs done and wanted to get the rest of them knocked out the next weekend. The band tracked in order: “Bullfrog”, “No Time”, “No Turning Back” and “All The Wrong Places”. The latter two were saved to be the last ones because Ivan had ideas of where to add vocals to them to make it a more fuller sound. “Bullfrog” followed up “Broken Trust” because Jacob wanted to play the ending jam on “Broken Trust” on upright bass, as he played “Bullfrog” on standup bass as well. “In The Shadow of The Mountain” was recorded free at the studio before they started tracking as a package deal. This song ended up needing to be redone though because the earlier mix got lost. They finished up all the tracks and hopped in a couple times a week to punch - in parts that needed fixing, but after that, the mixing process started.

The Music

The next couple of months that followed the recording session, were spent on mixing to get the redneck rock songs sounding better than ever. Almost every week from that point on, one day was spent going to the studio to tell them what to fix, until it got to a spot that Ivan was ok with, but the music is not all that goes into making the album. (Listen to "In The Shadow Of The Mountain Here"

The Art

The Wentzel Brothers Band had created an album with redneck rock songs before, but were novices in the process of making albums. They pick up on more ways to improve their next album, from production to telling mixers how to get the sound they want, to even getting the art made for the cd. The cd art for this album took awhile to make because the band was going through different artists who were about to create the cd art. The band had went with an artist they were not familiar with and he did not get the job done. Rushing in getting everything ready on time; They decided to go with was proven good! The Wentzel Brothers Band contacted the artist that also had taken care for the cd art of the first album "Flatcreek Road" which worked out perfectly. From there on the entire process went smooth and the finalizing of the second cd ended in the late stages of production, printing and specially rehearsing the songs. Within a couple of weeks The Wentzel Brothers Band was ready for the launch and maybe on their way to becoming rock legends?!!

Radio Time

Marty V from WKOM Radio 101.7 FM, called up the Wentzel’s home to schedule a day to come and meet with them and met all of them for the first time, and thought “These guys are serious about this, maybe I could turn them into rock legends, if they let me”, which Ivan graciously accepted the invite. The deal was to give the Wentzel Brothers Band some air time and commercials for the CD Launch and website on the radio, but he did not want anything in return, except a table and a couple of benches built for the radio. Ivan said “I’ll sleep on it first, but it's looking like it'll be yes!”

The Current Situation

In January, 2018, the masters for the album finally got finished just the way Ivan wanted. It seemed like everything in the album making process was moving along smoothly with the art, guaranteed air time and hard advertising on the radio and all the redneck rock songs being complete, but the only thing that is left is getting everything rolling and see exactly where this path is going to take this band. With as hard working of a band as The Wentzel Brothers Band, they are bound to hit hard and make countless classics that people will enjoy for decades, which is their all-time goal.
The studio that The Wentzel Brothers band went with to record and mix their second album, In The Shadow of The Mountain, was Sound Revival Studio, and this studio offered to go ahead and start tracking immediately, so then one of the best music bands went straight to recording in that late October of 2017.

The first song that the band hit in the studio was “We Ain’t Through” and it only took about 2 hours, with breaks, to complete. Ivan and jacob hopped in on the background vocals during the chorus and Joshua added background vocals to the verse, giving those spots some more “flavor” to the person hearing it. The group then decided to hit the song “69 Chevelle”, which went easy because they had already taken that song to the studio before, so they had an idea of what they wanted it to sound like. This song took 3 tries with the rhythm section and a couple of tries for the melody and lead. The only changes made to this song, in studio, were a couple of different drum fills and some different vocal changes to add diversity to the lyrics.

After a lunch break and some more time spent away for family reasons, they tracked one of the best southern songs that the engineers have ever heard which was “Helltrain”. The changes they did to this song were mainly in the bassline, where Jacob added a rhythm that progressively adds to the energy build-up in the song, and the guitar parts to the drop off in the song. They ended this night with those songs done and got there the next morning to get back to work.

The Next Day

The Band got to the studio early to get started on the next songs for their album, and went to work proving themselves as one of the best music bands of their generation. The band started the day off with “Do It Again”, another one of their best southern songs and ran through it around 5 times to get it close to what they wanted. They ended up going back to re-track the song the next weekend because Jacob did not like the tempo problems in the song. Josh and Ivan added background vocals in the chorus while Issac spent a good while on the lead guitar parts throughout the following weeks. “Chuck Terry” followed that up, being another one of their best southern rock songs, and got completed within the hour with only the drum change to the end being the thing added to the song. Jacob commented on this song saying “The bass you hear in this song was the first run that we tried and it was just the way that I wanted it!”.

The next song that finished off that day was “Broken Trust” and Ivan already had the intention to put backing vocals into this since the day it was created and knew just what to put in for them with Issac starting off the song in a low voice, to himself in the mid and Josh as the higher voice. This format changed in the chorus though, because of Issac singing the main vocals, Ivan’s and Issac’s harmonies switched to keep attention pulled on Issac’s part.

The Wentzel Brothers Bandtag:thewentzelbrothers.com,2005:Post/51028412018-02-28T00:28:37-06:002018-03-10T11:08:43-06:00In the Shadow of the Mountain Part 2 - Song Writing
Song-Writing Process

The Wentzel Brothers Band worked on “Broken Trust” for a short amount of time, which was around two weeks in the making and then moved onto the next song which they called “Corkscrew”. This song was a early version of the song “No Turning Back”, which sounded completely different from today's version. They could not quite get the sound right so Ivan went to create some great new music, with a blues rock revival sound which was titled “Chuck Terry”. Issac came up with a starting riff and Ivan put it into movement making Issac sing it over and over until they got the finished riff and melody/lyrics for the song.

They finished up the melody and brought it to the band to put the rhythm down and finish the song. The band at this point kept getting asked to play “Free Bird” so they wanted to create great new music and ended up being an early version of “Wrong Places” which sounded like a slow acoustic Guns and Roses song at the start and turned into an electric jam solo at the end. The sound changed to what is heard now after Ivan and Issac took it to the band and they put their ideas into it.

A Good Mix of Music

The band had a good mix of blues rock revival songs, but they were itching to write a fast-paced high energy song, and started creating “Hell Train”. This song from start to finish was completely done in two practices and incorporated every part in new jammin ways that was not before used. The band kept working on their “Corkscrew” song during this time, and gigged with some bands like The River Tramps, and one of their favorite bluegrass bands, The Howlin Brothers, and got an idea for their next song which was the secret track on their album called “Bullfrog”. This is the first all acoustic song on the album and displays the musician skills and talent each of them possess.

It was around this time when the band revisited their “Corkscrew” song, and turned it into “No Turning Back”, but not a finished version of it. This song still did not feel like the great new music they were looking for but it got finishing touches put on it in the studio just like every other song in the album. The last two songs, “We Ain’t Through” and “69 Chevelle”, got worked on at the same time and got mostly completed before they got into the studio to add stuff to their songs.

Finding the Right Studio

The process of finding the right studio to record the album took longer than actually recording the music. The band had all 11 of the songs to put on the album, but needed to get into a studio to get it made, and lucky for them, they actually had a LOT of competition between studios. At one point, the band had three studios to choose from within Tennessee that were all lowering their price and trying to offer more for less; it was a hard choice to pick which one they would go to. In the end, they chose Sound Revival Studios, in Columbia, Tennessee to record their music based on a couple of reasons that the others could not offer.
The Wentzel Brothers Bandtag:thewentzelbrothers.com,2005:Post/51014712018-02-27T10:56:51-06:002018-03-13T10:04:27-05:00In the Shadow of the Mountain - Album Part 1
In The Shadow of The Mountain is an amazing southern rock/blues rock playlist released by The Wentzel Brothers Band.
The Process of Making the Album

In the Shadow of the Mountain was mainly put together as a follow up to The Wentzel Brothers Band’s first blues rock playlist Flatcreek Road. The band was happy with their first album, however they knew with their ever-growing skill and experience that their next effort was going to be significantly better.

Knowing Your Role

The material on this album really showcases the bands abilities to play classic rock in a whole new way. Issac Wentzel’s lead guitar work, unwavering ability to write excellent vocal melody and excellent lead vocal performances are evident in every track. Ivan Wentzel’s consistent and always maturing songwriting and arrangement skills are a major part of the focused and experienced sound of each song. Not to mention, a very solid and musical drumming style combined with contributing more backup vocals than ever before. Jacob Newcomb is able to connect the band as a bassist and really add an entire new dynamic to the rhythm section with his locked-in, composed, and unique style. Joshua Terry’s rock solid rhythm guitar work and excellent vocal harmonies make him an essential member that any band would be proud to call part of the team. As each member’s roll became more clear, the process of writing and arranging songs became easier. Being that the band had more time and energy to spend on songwriting with a more efficient process, they were able to add more complexity, meaning, and substance to their work.

Learning More Every Time

When this band got together to write music, they always wanted to write music that was similar to the old classic rock that they listened to growing up. Ivan sat in with the mixer for the first album Flatcreek Road and picked up how to put arrangements together, and how to compose lyrics. Ivan started using these skills to try to compose a song, and came up with the early ideas for “Do It Again” and took it to the band, and it was a success with the bandmates. With this in his mind, Ivan started working on “No Time” and Jacob hopped in to help him with the lyrics. The process of making “No Time” took a couple of weeks to finish and changed to what you hear today with a Texas-style shuffle and a drop off that was inspired by Pink Floyd’s classic rock staple “Money”. Ivan had a family member steal from him and he decided to write a song about it which is called “Broken Trust”.

To start this we need to go to the beginning of my relation to the Wentzel brothers. I first met the boys in elementary school and that was the beginning of two great friendships that are likely to last a lifetime. I would ride on the bus everyday with either Ivan or Issac and every year the bus driver would assign me to sit with one of them. I would come over to their house and play games or go run in the woods. I remember the drumset downstairs that if we touched it would make mom mad. Their family would always treat me like I was part of it. They fed me good and I always had fun. I remember Ivan’s epic 16th birthday party where we shot guns and destroyed a tv. It was a super good time. I won’t forget the many days I have spent at their house.

Being good friends with Ivan, he always loved to listen to bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. When he hurt his back I didn’t see him for months and I missed him. Before he got hurt we lost a very close friend to Ivan. It was very hard to get through. I knew that Ivan and a lot of other people needed help with the situation. I was there for Ivan and I truly believe that helped me and him become closer friends. Music was an escape for Ivan and he showed me a lot of what he listened to which was good classic southern rock.

During Ivan’s senior year he asked me if I wanted to help him in the talent show, which ended up being one of the best bands in concert the school has ever had. I decided I would help as much as I could with either equipment or other things. I helped them by singing “Hotel California” and “Simple Man”. We started to play “Wish You Were Here” but the teachers told us to stop. The judges gave us twenty dollars for winning the talent show and all the money went to the band. It was a memory that I won’t ever forget. When Ivan graduated we didn’t see each other as much but when we did it was a lot of fun.

I knew Jacob Newcomb from my sister in the marching band. We had talked a few times and when I saw him in the band I knew he was a great addition and had the dedication to go far.

I knew Joshua Terry from Boy Scouts and we always got along great. I helped him and he helped me and I was so happy when he got his Eagle Scout. He joined the band and was a great rhythm guitarist from the start and I was happy to see him a part of it.

I always tried to keep track of the band and later i saw that Issac had joined and Joshua Terry. It was a jolly good band. They had great songs and I remember loving “What Was I Thinking” as soon as I heard it.

I am so glad that these boys have made it so far and I am excited to see how far they go with this classic southern rock. The music they produce is amazing and I support them all the way because they are one of the best bands in concert. Shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you will be a star.

Production

Flatcreek Road was recorded in december of the year 2016 at Blackbird Studios in Berry Hill, Tennessee in a single twelve-hour session. This album was recorded with a live band (a style of recording in which all parts of a song are recorded at once. The Nashville album Flatcreek Road was mixed by Tim “Mr. Starchy” Goode, who is is a good friend of The Wentzel Brothers Band, and mastered by Sage Audio.

Instrumentation

The band created this Nashville album as a four-piece band. Issac Wentzel played the lead guitar and sang the lead in every song except No Better Place, Ivan Wentzel played the drums in every song and sang all the backup vocals(also sang the lead vocals in No Better Place), Jacob Newcomb played the bass guitar for the tracks, and Joshy Terry recorded the rhythm guitar throughout Flatcreek Road. The lyrics are mainly written by Ivan Wentzel, with a few exceptions being “Can't Wait” and “What Was I Thinking”. Issac Wentzel wrote the melodies for the vocals in the country songs that rock.

Writing the Album

This Nashville album was written and recorded within six months of the band forming. Flatcreek Road was part of an experimental writing phase for The Wentzel Brothers Band. As each member learned more about their strengths and weaknesses, they were able to find their roles in the creative process.

Presentation

The album is named after a local creek( Flat Creek) near where the Wentzel Brothers were raised. The album art features The Wentzel Brothers Band sitting in the back of Issac Wentzel’s 1972 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck. The back cover is a photo of a street sign to Flat Creek Road. The album's photography was all photographed and edited by Jennifer Hedgepath of Northern Belle Photography. The package design is by Tom Comet.

Miscellaneous

The Wentzel Brothers Band was a very new band and the members were very young during the making of Flatcreek Road. They wanted to start bringing back rock and roll after hearing what people call rock nowadays. Ivan and Jacob were 18 and had just graduated from Forrest High School located in Chapel Hill, TN. Joshua was had just turned 17 at time of the recording and was a junior in high school. Issac was only 15, making him the youngest out of the group. Issac was a sophomore in high school. All four member of the band went to Forrest High School, which makes them a high school band. All the band members lived in Chapel Hill, Tennesee, also.

Conclusion

Flatcreek Road is The Wentzel Brothers Band's first studio album and was a great way to introduce them to the world. If you're interested in catchy tunes with genuine rock and roll feel, look no further than Flatcreek Road.

Ivan and Isaac Wentzel spent a fair amount of their young lives in and around the Duck River. It was always there fathers go to spot for camping fishing and swimming and later, a concert venue with lots of live music events. They spent many hot summer days floating the river and many warm summer nights camping on its banks.Only people that spend a lot of time in and around the water realize what a profound impact it can have on the way someone feels about nature and life in general.

Campfire Blues

There is nothing quite like playing around a campfire in the middle of the woods with nothing else to do. Even the stiffest people in the group tends to loosen up and sing along after a while. The Wentzel Brothers know this all too well. They have no shortage of campfire jams in their repertoire. In fact this is how many of the Wentzel brothers tunes came to be.

It All Starts with the Acoustic Guitar

The river and music go together like beans and cornbread and one of the beautiful things about a portable acoustic instrument is that you can carry it anymore. That being said going to the river without your guitar is like going to work with no pants. There’s no better time to write a song than when you’re watching the water rollover the rocks. Almost every song the band writes is conceived with the acoustic guitar it doesn’t look like that’s gonna change soon.

Duck Canoe

Ivan and Isaac at one point both worked at a local canoe rental business owned by David Pinrod. Duck canoe was the name of the business. It was one of the only jobs not associated with music that allowed you to bring your guitar to work. There were several hours each day spent on waiting for consumers to arrive from your long trip on the river. The brothers often passed the time with music by the riverside. They gained fans and friends alike through the several summers playing with a sort of live concert event by the riverside at the take out point ….Rats Nest Campground

The Rats Nest Campground

The Rats Nest Campground in many ways is one of the most important places in the history of the Band. The campground is owned by Coleman Michaels who has been completely supportive and totally generous towards the band in every way. The campground is home to the legendary “Howlin Hill river stage” a concert venue at which the boys were allowed to play live concert events at on a regular basis in their early career.

They were able to meet and watch many great banda there including “The Howlin Brothers “ after which the stage was named.Coleman Michaels and David Penrod remain supporters of the band to this very day.

In conclusion, The Duck River, it’s beauty, and the people surrounding it will always be an unwavering part of The Wentzel Brother’s music. In wise words of Lynyrd Skynyrd “You can take a boy out of old Dixieland lord but you will never take old Dixie from a boy.” That statement is further complimented by a saying that is common among the band “Real country boys play rock and roll.”
The Wentzel Brothers Bandtag:thewentzelbrothers.com,2005:Post/50943522018-02-22T20:17:33-06:002018-02-22T20:17:34-06:00In the beginning there was one.
How the Wentzel Brothers became a Band?!

Ivan has an interest in music

It all started with Ivan Wentzel at the age of 8. His parents bought him a small boom box with a CD player. The gift came with a single cd…. AC/DC Back in Black. As the next few weeks passed Ivan listened to the album on repeat. He was completely intrigued with all the instruments and how they worked together. His appetite for music grew and it wasn’t long before he was digging through his parents’ cd collection. Some of the first bands he discovered were hard rock, and southern rock, there were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, and Fleetwood Mac. It wasn’t long before he had discovered a whole new world of music.

A knack for the drums

At around the age of 10 Ivan’s father Elton Wentzel had noticed his interest in music. When he saw a drum set for sale for $200 he bought it. Ivan was immediately excited to learn the instrument. In less than a week Ivan was jamming along with a several of his favorite classic rock and hard rock songs. Ivan played drums on and off for a few years but because he didn’t have anyone to jam with he got out of the habit of playing.

A sports injury leads to a life in music.

Ivan was a dedicated wrestler from the 7th grade all the way through Junior year. He suffered a devastating back injury during Junior year that lead to him having to leave to the team. It was devastating because he had put years of work into better himself and his team. After making the mistake of attempting to complete his final season as a wrestler, he was hardly able to walk . It took doctor months of visits and repeated misdiagnosis before they finally pinned down the problem. It was two herniated discs in his lower back. The only solution was surgery. Luckily after months with no answers he saw a way out when he was booked for a potentially life changing surgery.

During all the time Ivan spent out of commission the only thing he could do to take his mind off of the pain and troubles was play music. However, the pain from the injury kept him off his drum set. He ended up dusting off one of his dad's old guitars and started learning all his favorite songs. By the time he was recovered he had a pretty solid understanding with a basic skill set on guitar.Time to start a new southern rock band.

It wasn’t long after Ivan started playing guitar that he realized how much fun it would be to have others to play with. It was then that he noticed that there was not really that many peers of his that could play an instrument and were interested in playing with others. He then started inviting anybody he knew over to jam to create a new southern rock band.

The Basic facts

One of the first people invited was a friend of his named Jacob Newcomb who loves grunge, hard rock, and countless other genres. He seemed to be a little more serious than the other kids so Ivan asked him if he was interested in learning to play bass. He took about 3 seconds to think about it and answered with a solid “Yeah Sure.” The rest is history.
